When should I engage a tax expert?

If you are subject to an tax audit or investigation by the IRB, the sooner you engage a competent tax expert, the better.

By doing so, you will save time and money.

A number of situations require a tax expert to be involved: fraud investigation, a lengthy audit, an audit involving legal issues, a large deficiency balance, incomplete or inadequate books and records, inability to pay, not filing returns for a number of years, and the expiration of the statute of limitations.

Do not delay and been unco-operative in the investigation. Your tax penalties will be very high. If you are in doubt, contact your tax advisor.
